Over the past few decades, the world of cybersecurity has changed dramatically. In the early days, cyber-attacks were simple and straightforward, often carried out by individuals who were just looking for a challenge. As technology has advanced, so too have the methods used by cyber criminals. Today, cyber-attacks are highly sophisticated, often carried out by well-funded organisations with specific goals in mind.
Significant threats to cybersecurity today
Ransomware
This type of attack involves encrypting a victim’s data and demanding payment for the decryption key. Ransomware attacks can be devastating, especially for businesses that rely on their data to operate.
Phishing
Phishing attacks use social engineering to trick individuals into revealing their login credentials or other sensitive information. These attacks are becoming more sophisticated, often using fake websites or emails that look like they come from a trusted source.
Malware
Malware is a catch-all term that refers to any malicious software that is designed to harm a computer or network. This can include viruses, worms, and spyware. Malware can be spread through infected emails, websites, and even through infected devices.
Advanced persistent threats (APTs)
APTs are long-term attacks that are designed to steal sensitive information from a target organisation. These attacks are often carried out by nation-states or other well-funded groups.
What should I do?
