The Bank of England was founded as a private bank in 1694 to act as banker to the Government. Today they are the central bank of the United Kingdom and has many responsibilities, including:

Project Goal(s)

The primary objectives of this project were to:

• Strengthen the Bank of England’s Data Governance Framework to enhance data integrity, accessibility, and regulatory compliance.
• Optimise board structures and meeting processes to improve governance efficiency.
• Establish clear policies and frameworks for data ownership, stewardship, and accountability.
• Improve user journeys to ensure better data access and management.
• Foster a data-driven culture by enhancing transparency and collaboration across the organisation.

Contributions

Contributions Our work focused on improving the Bank’s data governance strategy through a structured review, stakeholder engagement, and the development of key frameworks and policies.

Key contributions included:

• Conducting a comprehensive review of existing data governance policies, identifying gaps, and recommending improvements.

• Reviewing all Board Terms of Reference (ToRs) and suggesting optimisations for board meetings to enhance efficiency and governance.

• Collaborating with stakeholders to analyse board structures, assess their effectiveness in supporting data governance, and propose enhancements.

• Developing and refining data management policies and procedures, including frameworks for data ownership and stewardship.

• Mapping user journeys to improve data access, usage, and governance practices.

• Designing and delivering PowerPoint presentations on data management principles, strategies, and frameworks.

• Leading deep-dive discussions on data governance, fostering a culture of collaboration, transparency, and accountability within the Bank.
